Episode 20 Concept Sketches
By Thom Foolery
With all the art I do for Ozmo, I start with a rough concept which is what all of the first pics in every set are.
In the case of the machine for Fitz, the first 3 (on the notebook) I show the concepts to Matt (Maiellaro) he'll give notes and sign off on it.
For the machine for Mouse, I wanted to give Matt some options. The second one was the one he liked best.
After that, I start to flesh out the drawing and make a clean up sketch (which is the 2nd pic for the eye, 2nd for teh lab, 5th in the Mouse set, and 2nd for Skillet.)
After the design is finalized in that stage, I do final line art (3rd in Eye, 3rd in lab, 2nd on computer racks, and 6th on Mouse.)
After that I ink and color it in Photoshop (you can figure which ones those are.)
The one of the Mouse machine with the blue background is the color and ink.
The last one with the white background is after the texture was added in Photoshop.
The 4th pic in the Mouse set is just a rough layout for size to let me know how big I needed to draw the machine. Kind of a guideline to draw around.
The tubes in the eyes machine are what's called an "alpha channel," which means they are clear so effects can be added in Adobe AfterEffects to make it look like there is fluid pumping through them.
Also in the second rough for the Eye, there was a guitar in there. I threw that in there as a tip of the hat to Matt, but took it out because it was too jokey.
